History
The organisation City at Peace was initiated in Washington, DC as an effort by local youth, parents, and artists to speak out about the violence and racism that was rampant in their community.
The success of that programme sparked interest nationally and internationally. City at Peace is now present in six American cities and at ten locations in Israel. Cape Town is the first site of the project in Africa.
The project was initiated in Cape Town after community research showed limited opportunities for young people to work together across social divisions towards a common goal. The project was founded in 2005 by Solomon Kamwendo, former Managing Director of Ghetto Artists and coordinator of the Edu-tainment sector of the Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health project of the African Youth Alliance in Botswana, and Vincenza DeLuise Davis, an alumna of City at Peace Washington DC, and former Assistant Artistic Director of City at Peace Los Angeles.
